Like most all metal, these too can rust if not cared for properly.
For our stainless steel blades, we recommend keeping a coat of oil such as gun oil or a WD40 lubricant on the blade which will help protect it from moisture. Do not store your blade inside a scabbard made of leather, leather can hold moisture against the blade. If the scabbard is made of wood or a solid core, we recommend that you take the blade out and check it regularly. Should you start to see signs of tarnishing, use a metal polish on the blade to restore the shine.
Blades that are made of a carbon steel will need a little more care than that of their stainless steel cousins. The routine stated above is the same; however, humidity and fingerprints are not their friends. Both of these carry moisture and can cause rusting. Should you find spots, don't panic we have rust erasers available for purchase in our store. You will need to lightly rub the eraser over the affected area until rust is removed. Then wipe down the blade with a light coat of the oil.
Head on over to our Events Calendar to check out the locations we will be visiting. However, if you should see something you like on the online store and happen to be in the Oakhurst, CA area, contact us to set an appointment to stop by. But of course you can always find us right here at www.caitlinscutlery.com .
Yes, all of these items are; in fact, real. Our blades are made from a variety of stainless & low carbon steels while the handles are made from wood, bone, horn, metal, molded plastic, etc. or some combination thereof. Plastics, leathers, woods, etc are used for the construction of the scabbards and/or sheaths.
Yes. Some of the knives that we sell do have a sharp edge. Some are strictly meant for costume and though pointy at the tip, the edge is dull. If you are looking for a blade with a particular purpose, please contact us and we can point you in the right direction. Either way, we ask that you please practice safe, responsible blade handling.
These blades are not put through the forging and tempering processes needed for blades to withstand steel on steel interactions. Therefore, we DO NOT recommend using these blades for live steel combat or choreographed live steel play or practices.

If you should have a specific need by date, please contact us and we will do what we can to accommodate your timeframe, if possible. See The Fine Print page for further Shipping & Delivery information.
We understand circumstances may arise and are willing to discuss the possibilities of a return. Please see the Return & Refund Policy on The Fine Print page for more details.
